Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and other prominent scholars and elite are to meet in the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), during the homecoming event of the Department of Economics.
The homecoming, which is the second of its kind is slated for the university’s biggest auditorium, Margaret Ekpo Convocation Hall on Saturday.
The chairman of the organising committe, Dr Innocent Ifelunini, in a statement made available to newsmen in Enugu, yesterday, also named a member of the Federal House of Representatives, Ferdinand Nwankwo; Chairman, Innoson Nigeria Limited, Dr Innocent Chukwuma; immediate past president, South-East South-South Professionals of Nigeria, Mr Emeka Ugwu-Oju; chairman, PowerGold Industries Limited, Chief Roland C. Okeke, and many other alumni as other dignitaries expected to attend the event.
Dr. Ifelunini explained that ‘as part of the event, the department usually invites distinguished administrators and policy makers to address economists on burning issues that have implications for policy making in the Nigerian economy.’
This, according to him, informed the choice of the CBN governor as the lead paper presenter for the grand event.
He also said the apex bank administrator who has formally confirmed his attendance will be speaking on ‘Managing Exchange Rate Regime in a Recessed Economy: The Nigerian Option’ .
“This year’s homecoming event coincides with a period when all stakeholders in the Nigerian economy are brainstorming on the most cost effective way of getting the economy out of recession with minimal welfare impact, and the university community is looking forward to hosting a colourful and unprecedented event,” he said.
The event, which will be hosted by the university’s Vice Chancellor, Prof Benjamin Ozumba and Head Department of Economics, Prof S. I. Madueme will also feature other lectures and award presentation to some distinguished administrators, policy makers and alumni of the department .
