Hon. Dabo Ismail, a member of the House of Representatives representing Toro Federal Constituency of Bauchi State, has said protesters opposing the Electoral Act Amendment failed to properly study the provisions of the bill before taking to the streets.
Ismail said this during Tuesday’s breakfast show on TVC News, adding that lack of adequate knowledge about the situation and false information were the main causes of the dispute around the change.
“The protesters did not sit down to study the amendment Act properly,” he said.
“If they had done so, they would have understood that real-time transmission of results is not possible due to the technology infrastructure in Nigeria.”
Also, the lawmaker stated that he has distanced himself from calls for real-time electronic transmission of election results, stressing that he never supported such a provision during deliberations in the House of Representatives.

“I never supported real-time transmission, even when the matter was discussed on the floor of the House,” Ismail stated.
“It is not something I have ever stood for because it will not favour my constituency.”
He further criticised the involvement of some politicians in the protest, accusing them of misleading the public for political reasons.
“Some politicians who joined the protest need to be enlightened,” he said.
“They should stop manipulating the people and creating unnecessary tension over issues they do not fully understand.”
