A group, which specialises in election monitoring, YIAGA AFRICA, has said voters turnout in Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections were lower than the 2015 polls.
It also claimed that 41 percent of polling units opened between 10:00a.m to 10:30a.m, while those in the South South and South East opened much later.
The group said the electoral process was characterised by many shortcomings that had truncated previous referendum in the past.
Its Chairman, Dr Hassaini Abdu, while addressing newsmen, yesterday, in Abuja, on its preliminary findings on the elections, noted that from the shortcomings witnessed by observers, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) missed the opportunity of conducting an applaudable and credible elections.
He said: ‘’YIAGA AFRICA’s findings showed that polling units opened late throughout the country with only 41 percent of polling units open as at 10:30a.m, while polling units in the South South and South East opened later than polling units in other geopolitical zones.”
