Ekiti-based lawyer reminds IG of case against FUOYE VC

Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE)

An Ekiti State-based lawyer has sent a letter of reminder to the Inspector-General of Police demanding a thorough investigation into the case against the vice-chancellor, Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Prof. Sunday Fasina.

The letter, dated September 14, 2022, and signed by Bayo Idowu, was titled: “Reminder on a petition against Prof. Sunday Fasina and our demand for a thorough investigation, disciplinary action, and prosecution,” and was copied the Commissioner of Police, Police Special Fraud Unit.

In the two-page letter, Idowu reminded the IGP of his chambers’ letter, dated January 11, 2022, in reference to HBIC in respect of the collection of double salaries in Ekiti University, Ado-Ekiti and Federal University Oye-Ekiti simultaneously for the following months: October, November and December 2016 and January, February and September 2017.

Idowu revealed that the petition was covered by the provisions of relevant laws and explicitly stated in an earlier letter.

The lawyer said the remainder was due to publications in online media with headlines “Rights suit: Police to settle out of court,” and another one, “Rights suit: “FUOYE VC cleared of spurious allegations.”

“We were bewildered with those publications because there was no time we were invited to give our testimony regarding the matter and more so it is not part of our administration of the criminal justice system for criminal matters to be settled by mere invitation of the suspects by the police without investigation and prosecution, especially in this case where allegations of receiving double salaries were established against Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina,” he explained.

The lawyer informed the police boss that the alleged offense was criminal and misconduct punishable under the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and that Fasina was the VC of Federal University, Oye-Ekiti: “We await your thorough and discreet investigation as well as your response and invitation regarding the petition.’’
