Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has called on Nigerians to embrace compassion, forgiveness and unity.
He congratulated Muslim faithful on the successful completion of the Ramadan fast, urging them to sustain the spirit of almsgiving and love for one another.
“This joyous celebration reminds us of the profound values of compassion, forgiveness, and unity that Eid-el-Fitr embodies.
“As you conclude this important exercise of fasting and spiritual reflection, be reminded of the importance of empathy, kindness, and generosity towards others, particularly the less privileged.”
Akpabio emphasised that the lessons of Ramadan should not end with the fasting period but should translate into actions that promote national cohesion and social harmony.
“May the spirit of Eid inspire us to cultivate compassion, promote understanding, and work towards a more just and harmonious Nigeria,” he added.
Similarly, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, urged the Muslim Ummah to uphold the values of piety, sacrifice and compassion imbibed during the holy month.
He also highlighted the global implications of the ongoing tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, noting that the situation has triggered price shocks affecting economies across the world, including Nigeria.
He commended President Bola Tinubu for what he described as relentless efforts to stabilise the nation’s economy through reforms and policy interventions.
Obi urges unending Ramadan spirit
Frontline opposition leader and the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in 2023, Mr. Peter Obi, has urged Nigerian Muslims to imbibe the spirit of Ramadan going forward after the 30-day fast.
In congratulating them for successfully completing the religious obligation in faith, he said said: “I join you with heartfelt joy as we celebrate Eid al-Fitr, the blessed festival that marks the successful completion of the sacred month of Ramadan.
“This occasion is a profound reminder of the power of faith, discipline, selflessness, and unwavering devotion to Almighty Allah.
“Throughout Ramadan, you have fasted, prayed, given charity, and drawn closer to God embodying values that inspire not only the Muslim ummah but every person of goodwill. These lessons of compassion, humility, patience, and solidarity must not end with the month; may they continue to guide our hearts, our actions, and our shared life as Nigerians.
“In these challenging times for our nation; marked by hardship, insecurity, and the urgent need for renewal. Let the spirit of Eid strengthen our resolve to stand together.
“Let us extend hands of kindness to the vulnerable, promote peace across our communities, reject division in all its forms, and work tirelessly for a just, equitable, and prosperous Nigeria where every citizen thrives.

“To the entire Muslim ummah: May this Eid bring you immense joy, renewed hope, good health, and abundant blessings. May we all continue to build bridges of understanding, love, and unity as one people under God.
Eid Mubarak! Eid Sa’id!”
Otu, Oborevwori enjoin love, compassion
Governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Otu, also extended felicitations to Muslim faithful across the state and Nigeria as they join millions of believers around the world to celebrate Eid al-Fitr.
In a goodwill message released by his Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Linus Obogo, Governor Otu commended the Muslim community for successfully completing the sacred observance of Ramadan, a period devoted to fasting, prayer, reflection and charity, which he described as one of the most profound demonstrations of spiritual discipline and devotion.
He noted that the conclusion of Ramadan and the celebration of Eid-el-Fitr represent a moment of spiritual triumph and renewal, urging the faithful to preserve and sustain the virtues of humility, compassion, sacrifice and generosity imbibed during the holy month.
“Eid-el-Fitr is a celebration that embodies the noblest ideals of faith and humanity,” the governor stated. “It is a time that reminds us of the power of sacrifice, the beauty of compassion, and the enduring value of extending love and kindness to those around us, particularly the less privileged in our society.
“The festival offers a unique opportunity for Nigerians across religious and ethnic divides to strengthen the bonds of unity, tolerance and peaceful coexistence,” noting that “these values remain indispensable to the progress and stability of both Cross River State and the nation at large.”
Governor Otu reiterated that his administration remains firmly committed to fostering a society anchored on inclusiveness, justice and equal opportunity for all citizens, irrespective of religious affiliation, while continuing to pursue policies that promote social harmony and collective prosperity.
“As we celebrate this auspicious occasion,” the governor remarked, “let us renew our commitment to peace, mutual understanding and service to humanity. Our strength as a people lies in our unity, our shared aspirations and our collective resolve to build a society where every citizen can thrive.”
He, therefore, urged Muslim faithful to mark the festival with gratitude, moderation and generosity, while praying that the blessings of Eid bring enduring peace, renewed hope and abundant prosperity to Cross River State and the entire nation.

He noted that Ramadan represents a period of deep reflection, self-discipline, compassion, and renewed faith, urging Muslims to sustain these virtues beyond the holy month for the overall good of society.
He emphasised the importance of peaceful coexistence, unity, and tolerance among people of different religious and ethnic backgrounds.
The Governor also called on Nigerians to use the occasion to pray for the continued peace, stability, and progress of the nation, stressing that collective efforts and mutual understanding remain key to overcoming current socio-economic challenges.
While wishing Muslims a joyous and peaceful Eid celebration, Oborevwori assured Deltans of his administration’s unwavering commitment to inclusive governance, infrastructural development, and the overall well-being of all citizens, in line with his M.O.R.E Agenda.
He further urged residents to celebrate responsibly and continue to support government efforts aimed at building a stronger, secured and more prosperous Delta State.
–Forum (ACF), in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Prof. Tukur Muhammad-Baba, described Ramadan as a period of intense worship, reflection, sacrifice, and charity, but noted that this year’s observance came amid worsening economic and social challenges.
It expressed concern over what it described as “dire economic hardships” affecting citizens, saying the reality on the ground contradicts official claims of improving conditions.
According to the Forum, widespread poverty and deprivation continue to define the lives of many Nigerians, particularly in the northern region, which it said still bears the burden of deep-seated socio-economic difficulties.
Highlighting security concerns, the Forum painted a grim picture of conditions across northern Nigeria.
It noted that the North Central zone has faced persistent attacks by armed groups in states such as Benue, Niger, Plateau, Kogi and Kwara.
In the North West, the group said banditry remains rampant, with criminal gangs continuing to terrorize communities.
The North East faces renewed threats from extremist groups, alongside recent attacks on military formations in Borno and Plateau states.
The ACF also raised concerns about alleged violations of democratic norms, including claims of extra-judicial arrests and prolonged detentions by authorities, warning that such actions undermine established democratic principles.
Describing the general mood of citizens as one of “despair, hopelessness and despondency,” the Forum nonetheless commended Nigerians for their resilience, noting that both Ramadan and the Christian Lenten season were observed despite prevailing hardships.
The group cautioned political leaders against complacency, warning that continued deterioration in living conditions could trigger public unrest.
ACF maintained that Nigeria’s challenges are not insurmountable. It called for a renewed focus on good governance, urging authorities to prioritize sound public policy over early political campaigning ahead of the 2027 elections.
The Forum also advised citizens to remain patient and prayerful, expressing optimism that current difficulties will not last forever.
It further urged political aspirants to embrace values of prudence, restraint, and accountability in their engagement with the electorate.
ACF called for sustained public support for security agencies in their efforts to combat crime and restore stability across the country.
