Nigerian Army troops have forced terrorists out of a hideout in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State, recovering a PKT machine gun, AK-47 rifles, ammunition and motorcycles during the operation.
The operation was conducted by troops of the COAS Special Intervention Battalion 7, Sector 2, under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist networks operating across the North-West.
The troops moved into areas identified as potential terrorist strongholds, including Manu, Alkasim and Kandam villages, as well as the Magarya forest axis, following intelligence reports on the presence and activities of armed groups.
According to military sources, the soldiers encountered the terrorists inside the Magarya forest, leading to a gun battle that forced the armed group to abandon its position and retreat further into the forest.
The troops subsequently conducted a search of the area and surrounding locations, where they discovered weapons and other materials believed to belong to the fleeing terrorists.
Recovered items included a PKT machine gun, AK-47 rifles, a substantial quantity of 7.62 x 54mm belted ammunition, motorcycles and assorted logistical equipment.

The military said the seizure of the weapons would undermine the terrorists’ ability to sustain attacks and operate from the area.
The recovered motorcycles are believed to have been used to navigate the difficult terrain around the forest and access isolated communities.
Following the operation, troops maintained patrols and follow-up activities around the affected locations to prevent the terrorists from regrouping or re-establishing their presence.
The latest operation forms part of intensified military efforts across the North-West aimed at denying armed groups access to hideouts and limiting their ability to attack communities or abduct residents.
Military authorities also warned terrorists and their collaborators still operating in the area to abandon their activities, stressing that security forces would continue pursuing the groups and dismantling their operational networks.
The Army further assured residents in the affected communities of its commitment to protecting lives and property while restoring security and confidence in the area.
