Parents, guests, staff and pupils of Christ the King’s Montessori Nursery/Primary School, Azuiyiokwu, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, were wowed by the scintillating performance of a Primary 4 pupil, Miss Chisom Reuben, who presented a two-page welcome address off hand, on behalf of the school, during their graduation on July 15.
The uncommon feat received applause from the crowd and fetched her instant gifts, including scholarship for her remaining years in the school.
In the address presented by Miss Chisom, the management said the school was established on September 16, 2019, to bridge the gap in nursery and primary school education in the state.
“The school has produced 14 pupils who took their Common Entrance Examination and First School Leaving Certificate Examination. The number of pupils is 80 and they are hardworking and well-behaved. We have employed four more teachers and our teachers are paid their salaries regularly and timely,” she stated.
Chisom, however, appealed to parents and public-spirited individuals and organisations to assist the school in any manner they so desired, especially in actualizing its permanent site project and stocking the library.
In the same token, a member of the school’s management, Mrs. Uzoamaka Rachel, told Daily Sun’s correspondent that efforts to meet some of the pressing demands of the school, especially regarding infrastructure, were in top gear.
“The management has been trying to ensure that some of these issues are resolved, and I can assure you that, in few a weeks, some of them will be taken care of.
“Our mission and vision is to be the best and to produce best pupils and we cannot afford to miss our target. We solicit the support of well-meaning individuals and parents too,” she said.
In his remarks, the chairman on the occasion, Nze Magnus Eze, extolled the graduands and the school’s management for putting together a very colourful event, adding that it brought back fond memories of his childhood as a pupil.
Eze, who heads The Sun newspaper in the South East, described the brilliant performances of the pupils during their individual and group presentations as second to none.
He said: “I am very happy to be in your midst today. Many years ago, some of us were like you but, today, to the glory of God, we are already fathers, husbands, mothers and the rest.
“I’m highly captivated by your individual and group presentations. They show how dedicated and hardworking your teachers and management are.
“It’s my prayer that God will continue to be with you to continue to be good children. I am confident that among you we will produce governors, senators, doctors, lawyers, engineers, journalists, etcetera, because I am a journalist. So, I will like to also see some of you becoming editors in the future.”
He, however, said there was urgent need to improve the school’s infrastructure or pursue the relocation of the students from their current address, promising to assist them in whatever way possible.
He also promised to give special prizes to the best pupils in each of the 10 classes in the school as well as to take over the school fees of nine-year-old Chisom Reuben, for her brilliant presentation at the event.
Also, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Chidi Nwoke, further praised the school for its giant strides.
Nwoke, who chaired the school’s maiden graduation last year, posited that education remained the bedrock of sustainable development and securing the future of young people.
He promised to sponsor education-enhancement bills to revitalize and strengthen the state’s education sector, if elected into the Ebonyi House of Assembly next year.
He, however, lamented the neglect of the education sector by government at all levels, stressing that it did not augur well for the development, peace and security of the country.
A parent, Mrs. Amechi Gift, who had four children in the school, said she was happy with the progress of her children in terms of learning and understanding, and attributed it to the hard work and dedication on the part of the teachers and school management.
