Commissioner of Police, Delta State, Mr. Wale Abass, said the command has arrested over 100 suspected criminals i recent weeks: “We have charged them to court to face the wrath of the law. Over 300 arms and ammunition were recovered in Aladja, Udu LGA, and Obinoba, Nkwani LG.”
He spoke in Abuja, immediately after the IGP’s conference: “Delta State is too hot for criminals to operate. We have dealt with armed robbery, kidnapping and cultisim. The suspects abandoned their arms and ammunition at the scenes of crime.
“The ‘ember’ months will be too hard for hoodlums to carry out their operations or terrorise innocent citizens. I visited some black spots and redployed some of the tactical team operatives. The command carried out massive raids on hideouts in Agbor, Warri, Ughelli, Sapele Isa-Ogwashi-Uku and Aladja in Udu local government. We recorded successfull operations. We recovered some dangerous weapons from them.
“The police tactical team on surveillance encountered some criminal elements operating within Warri-Udu-Koko axis. The officers trailed the hoodlums to their hideout located in Aladja. They took to their heels upon sighting police.
“A search was conducted on an uncompleted building. A sack with identified AK47 rifles, magazine loaded with seven rounds of 7.62mm ammunition English pump-action live cartridges two locally made single-barrel guns were recovered. Also a police squad stormed a criminal hideout along Isa-Ogwashi-Uku. They were suspected cultists and a gang of armed robbers. They escaped and abandoned their one locally fabricated Berretta pistol and four rounds of live ammunition.
“The team raided kidnappers’ hideouts in Obinoba of Nkwani LGA and recovered 250 rounds of live cartridges and locally fabricated pump-action guns and rescued three victims. The kidnappers released the victims after collecting a ransom of N2 million and jewellery with about N3.5 million recovered from them; six suspects , including a pastor and his wife, are at large.
“Police operatives in Asaba Division in a combined effort with the vigilante on patrol around the Second Niger Bridge recovered a bag containing AK47 rifles, pump-action and ammunition magazines.
“A notorious cultist terrorising Oghara, with some suspected members of Aiye Confraternity were also arrested.”
