The 2026 DavNotch National Tennis Championship got underway on Saturday at the Tennis Arena of Package B, Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, marking the sixth consecutive year of sponsorship by DavNotch Nigeria Limited.
The week-long tournament opened with preliminary matches and is scheduled to conclude on June 27, bringing together some of the country’s top tennis talents in a competition expected to showcase the continued growth of the sport in Nigeria.
This year’s championship carries added significance as the sponsor, DavNotch Nigeria Limited, is chaired by Victor Ochei, who also serves as President of the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF), giving him the dual role of sponsor and host of the tournament.
Under Ochei’s leadership, Nigerian tennis has recorded notable progress, including the country’s qualification for the second round of the Davis Cup for the first time since 1989.
Organisers have promised an improved experience for participants and fans at this year’s event, with enhanced prize money and expanded welfare packages for players, officials and spectators.
The championship is expected to provide a platform for emerging talents to compete alongside established stars as the nation continues its drive to strengthen tennis development.
