Manchester United midfielder Carlos Baleba has suffered a hamstring injury during the club’s 3-2 Champions League victory over Roma.
The Cameroon international was forced off early in the second half after pulling up in pain during a forward run at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.
Baleba was replaced by Youri Tielemans in the 51st minute, with the midfielder visibly distressed as he left the pitch.
United head coach Michael Carrick confirmed after the match that Baleba had sustained a hamstring injury, adding that the initial assessment was not encouraging.
“I haven’t got any more news on Carlos at this stage, but obviously it’s his hamstring. We’ll have to assess what that looks like. Initially, it doesn’t look great,” Carrick said.
The 22-year-old’s injury comes ahead of United’s Premier League clash against Aston Villa at Old Trafford on Sunday.
The club is expected to provide further details on the midfielder’s condition after additional assessment.
United came from two goals down to defeat Roma, with Bruno Fernandes scoring from the penalty spot before Matheus Cunha netted twice to complete the comeback.
