Daikin, a leading manufacturer of air conditioning, heating, ventilation and refrigeration solutions, in partnership with Field of Skills and Dream (FSD) a vocational, technical, and entrepreneurship training institute has announced the opening of its second training center in Nigeria to facilitate the training of new HVAC-R technicians.

The center equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and training equipment would provide trainees with hands-on experience across topics such as system installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and energy efficiency.

Speaking at the launch in Lagos, the Vice President of Daikin Middle East and Africa, Tuna Gulenc while observing that Nigeria has great potential given its talented and promising youthful population said that it was necessary to train and build those talents to be successful and contribute to the economy.

“As a part of Daikin’s localization strategy, the training center aims to build a community of skilled workforce and equip them with all the necessary education required to excel in their career and contribute to Africa’s climate efforts by promoting sustainable cooling solutions,” Gulenc explained.

He added that with the ever-increasing demand for cooling solutions in Africa, particularly in Nigeria, Daikin was committed to serving the local market where it operates. “This demand comes at the price of its impact on the environment, hence the realization of promoting sustainability can be met faster by educating the local market and its users whit the technical expertise.”

“The beneficiaries of this academia would become the key individuals who would provide these services to the market and at the same time earn an income while contributing to the economy.,” he added.

Director at FSD, Omowale Ogunrinde, noted that the intervention of Daikin to upgrade the Center’s skills development workshop for HVAC technicians was apt as it came at a time when it was aiming to empower more young Nigerians with new skills to access jobs and start small businesses of their own.

Ogunrinde noted that FSD which was prominent for vocational training cutting across several profession and has trained over 10,000 individuals and expressed excitement at the partnership with Daikin as it would further strengthen efforts at addressing the issue of unemployment.

“You cannot be unemployed when you have skills. There are jobs, but there are no skilled people. In essence, we need more training institutions like this to provide our people with the required professional knowledge. At FSD, we have a 100 percent employment rate for our trainees and our goal is producing more technicians equipped with the requisite skills to deploy professional services in global cooling technology would be met across Nigeria.” he said.
