The embattled former chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State has rejected his impeachment by the State Executive Committee, describing it as a joke taken too far.

Speaking in a telephone interview, Alphonsus Eba said, “My purported impeachment is a joke taken too far. God will speak at the appropriate time. I won’t say more than this for now.”

The Cross River State APC announced Eba’s impeachment at the party secretariat following a meeting of the state executive council. Patrick Asikpo, the state secretary, disclosed that 30 out of the 32 members of the state executive committee impeached Eba on 26 November 2025.

Following the impeachment, the committee elected and swore in the former deputy state chairman, Ntufam Ekum Ojoju, as acting state chairman.

In his acceptance speech, the new acting chairman urged party members to sheath their swords and move the party forward:

“It is time to sheath our swords. Let us set aside any differences, grievances, or misunderstandings that may have arisen. I want you to know that all entitlements and dues owed to you will be serviced in the shortest possible time. Your patience and trust fuel our resolve to move forward together.”

He also affirmed his unflinching loyalty to Governor Senator Bassey Otu.

Meanwhile, High Chief Kelvin Njong, chapter chairman of Boki and Chairman of Chapter Chairmen, warned the new chairman not to repeat his predecessor’s missteps. He justified the impeachment, calling it the people’s will finally prevailing and thanked Governor Otu for not interfering with the decision.
