COVID-19: Eze Igbo Ghana gives palliatives to needy at lockdown

As part of effort to bring succor to the needy and the vulnerable, the Eze Ndigbo Ghana, HRM Eze Dr. Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu, Eze Ohazurume, and his wife, Lolo Ugoeze Liberty Ihenetu recently shared food stuffs and other essential commodities  to thousand of People from all works of life who visited him in his palace. The humanitarian act took place simultaneously in Ghana and his country home in Imo State.

 

In a statement, the royal father said he took the step to meet the need of thousands of Ndigbo and other Nigerians who were affected by the lockdown imposed by the Ghanaian government in its effort to check the spread of the dreaded pandemic.

 

He said in carrying out this exercise, he ensured that all COVID-19 protocols were applied as social distancing, the use of sanitizer and hand gloves were applied to ensure safety of beneficiaries of the program.

 

Speaking on the impact of the lockdown, Eze Ihenetu said unless the affluent reach out to the needy, hunger would even kill people faster than the virus. “When I see my people running out of food because most of them eek out living from daily jobs, I and my wife came out with a plan to meet some of their needs. This move gave birth to this exercise where we distributed food items and cash to them”

 

On why he find it easy to reach out to the needy, Ihenetu who holds the title of Eze Ohazurume 1 said he had humble beginning. He said as a son of a retired teacher, there were difficulties in bringing him and his siblings up. Not allowing these challenges to hold him down, the royal father said he indulged in trading and from there; he developed his business and entrepreneurial skills.

 

Highlights of the event were distribution of food items and cash to Igbo and other vulnerable Nigerians in the country.
