Confraternity of Christian Mothers celebrates 60 years in Falomo

The members of the Confraternity of Christian Mothers (CCM), Catholic Church of the Assumption, Falomo, Ikoyi, Lagos, celebrated its 60th anniversary recently. It was a double celebration of the silver jubilee and 25th solemn reception of 21 new members into the confraternity.

The event, which took place on the church premises, started with a Holy Mass attended by over 20 Catholic priests from around the country.

In his homily, the parish priest of Church of the Assumption, Falomo, Very Rev. Fr. Francis Ike, reiterated the importance of women as regards to their roles in the society.

He stated that mothers hold a special stake in the continuation of life and the human race.

He said: “Your impact in the church has only given credence to your nature as mothers.”

He commended them for responding to God’s call to be fruitful and multiply, a role women have diligently played from inception through the growth of the human person for the continuation of human race.

He advised the mothers to support young families, mentoring young mothers to draw a wealth of experience from them to keep their families together and in love.

“Continue to be good mothers, building strong and fruitful Christian families, to the glory of God, while shining the light of Christ in homes, offices and other engagements,” he said.

Fr. Francis reminded them that a good society is the product of good families and mothers are critical to such attainment.

The theme of the event was “Celebrating 60 years of God’s Grace. The president of Confraternity of Christian Mothers, Church of the Assumption, Falomo, Shirley Bassey, in her welcome address, highlighted the laudable projects embarked upon by the organization since inception. They were in the areas of education, infrastructure, humanity, such as catering for the underprivileged within and outside the Catholic Church, public health, human capacity building in terms of youth empowerment, funding of the N70 million security towers at Mater Ecclesia College, Epe, Lagos, donation of 32-seater bus to the school and annual scholarship up to university level to indigent children between 2000 and 2006, among others.

They are not relenting in carrying out more projects. Part of the silver jubilee celebration was N25m fundraising drive for building the third security tower at Mater Ecclesia College.

The event also witnessed various awards handed to some personalities in the country. The recipients included Senator Mike Ajegbo, Dame Winifred Akpani, and Dr Gregory Ero, who were presented with the lifetime achievement award.

Prince Kenneth Onyema and his spouse, Ebisan, and Joseph Ikedianya and wife were among those conferred with distinguished Catholic couples award. There was also the  Silent Graceful Pillars of the Church award, among other awards.

Some of the personalities who attended the event were Martins Agbaso, who was the chairman on the occasion. Other co-launchers included Chris Okewulonu, Dr Adaobi Nwakuche, Andy Isichei, Anthony Oyovbaire, Godwin Omoaka, Tony Ndah, Val and Ella Obi, among many other distinguished personalities.
