Community group fetes women, children in Yenagoa

Zeeba’s Touch Initiative

The Zeeba’s Touch Initiative, a Community-Based Organization (CBO) registered with the Bayelsa State Ministry of Women, Children Affairs, Social Development, and Empowerment, has successfully hosted its flagship community outreach programme, “Shop for Free” with the theme: Bridging Divides Through Dignity and Charity.

Departing from traditional donation methods, the “Shop for Free” event offered a dignified, retail-style experience.

Participants were invited to browse aisles and select clothing, household goods, and essentials that suited their personal tastes and family needs, all at zero cost.

According to Dr. (Mrs.) Azibasuam Adioni-Arogo, Executive Director of Zeeba’s Touch Initiative, “Our goal was to provide essential support in a way that honours the individual.” “This program is designed to alleviate economic hardship while ensuring that every participant feels like a ‘preferred shopper’ rather than a recipient of charity,” she added.

In a beautiful display of communal harmony, the shopping floor saw Christian and Muslim neighbors shopping side-by-side, sharing smiles and selecting items for their families.

The event transcended religious lines, proving that compassion and poverty know no faith.

A significant volume of quality goods was recirculated, promoting sustainability and immediate social equity.

By allowing beneficiaries to choose for themselves, the initiative reinforced the universal right to dignity.

The emotional weight of the day was captured by a beneficiary, “I have shopped for my unborn baby today. I am so happy and delighted; this initiative is truly a blessing for myself and my family.”

Zeeba’s Touch Initiative operates on three unwavering pillars, including the principle that poverty has no religion, dignity is a universal right, and community is stronger when we all shop together.
