The Centre for Human and Socio-Economic Rights (CHSR) has accused the Nigeria Police Force and the legal representatives of a land grabber, Abiodun Ariori of distorting facts and attempting to cover up the August 27, 2025, Owode-Onirin Motor Spare Parts Market massacre.
President of the CHSR, Alex Omotehinse, at a world press briefing in Lagos, yesterday, disclosed that the police and Ariori’s legal team were peddling a false narrative that no lives were lost during the incident, claiming that the killings occurred in Igbogbo, Ikorodu.
However, he noted that witnesses, video recordings and photographs, confirmed that six innocent traders were brutally murdered by Ariori’s thugs and policemen from the Nasarawa State Command.
Omotehinse said: “The victims, Mr. Seyi Akinboye, Mr. Adeoye Taiwo, Mr. Dare Mufutau, Mr. Aderemi Adeoye Hakeem, Mr. Abraham Idowu Temilola and Mr. Wale Adebayo, were legitimate traders, who had petitioned the government for protection from the constant harassment and illegal demolition of his shop.
“They were not criminals. They were breadwinners, fathers and community members. Their only crime was standing up for their right to trade and live peacefully on land legally allocated by the Lagos State Government decades ago.”
The CHSR is demanding: “Immediate retraction of the police’s false claims and a transparent report on the incident; the Lagos State Attorney-General’s questioning over biased comments; re-arrest and prosecution of Ariori and his accomplices for murder and unlawful demolition; public trial of the four police officers involved; compensation for the victims’ families and free post-mortem examinations and joint action by relevant authorities to ensure justice is served.”
The group vowed to continue speaking truth to power until justice is served and those responsible for the atrocity are held accountable
