Following months of battling against some of Nigeria’s top performers and vocalists who auditioned for the ninth season of Nigerian Idol, Chima Udoye was proclaimed the winner of this year’s version during the finale on Sunday, July 14.
Chima is known for his onstage charisma and vocal agility, which left the judges, 9ice, Omawumi, and Ric Hassani, astonished with each performance.
During the final performances, Omawumi mentioned that Chima was competing against himself, which is a genuine tribute to how his progress in the program demonstrates how much he is capable of outside of the competition.
Chima, who specializes in jazz and soul music, stated at the start of the program that he wanted to utilize the Nigerian Idol platform to encourage people while also showcasing his vocal skills. Twelve weeks later, he was declared the winner of the competition.

Chima was awarded a cash reward of 30 million naira, a brand new SUV, DStv Explora, and a one-year premium subscription. The main prize includes a recording deal and a music video.

Chima Udoye’s journey to music began in 2017 after a taste of success in a school competition where he was part of the top 20 of the competition, this gave him motivation because he never thought he was that good and could do music.
In 2020, he started working as a background vocalist where he developed a passion on how to express himself and being heard all over the world.
In 2023, Chima udoye auditioned for Nigerian Idol Season 8 but unfortunately did not scale through to the top 10 stage of the competition.
In 2024, he was motivated by one of his friends to be part of this year’s edition which he won on Sunday.
Based on his first performance during the season 9 audition he got the platinum ticket which took him through the last stage of the audition and he was the only platinum ticket holder out of three who got to the top 10 stage of the competition, where he eventually won.
