He who fights and runs away live to fight another day; but he who is battle-slain can never rise to fight again. For young oil tycoon, Chima Desmond Anyaso, no venture, no gain as he’s quietly ruing his electoral loss at the recently concluded National Assembly polls.
It was Anyaso’s baptism of fire when he suffered a heavy defeat in his attempt to become a member of the Nigeria’s House of Representatives representing Bende Federal Constituency in Abia State on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party after years of fortune-gulping campaign. Anyaso’s dream of becoming a Federal lawmaker was about four years old with a blitzkrieg-like campaign that had him undertake in his community and larger constituency before the election building of schools, construction of blocks of classrooms, pipe-borne water projects, donation of cars to individuals and groups and donation of cash and gifts to communities and individuals.
Moreso, he had defeated the well-grounded incumbent and ranking female lawmaker, Nnena Elendu Ukeje at their party’s primary in 2018 to fly the party’s flag then. He had elicited a lot of hope and confidence, with people generally believing that his victory at the general election come 2019 was already a foregone conclusion. But, he shockingly lost to Benjamin Kalu, the All Progressives Congress candidate believed to have the full backing of the highly influential former Governor of Abia State and now Senator-elect, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu. The APC candidate, Benjamin Kalu, polled 9139 votes against Anyaso who could only poll 5591 votes.
While he mourns his electoral loss, Anyaso took to his social media platform to console and reassure his admirers and supporters that all hope is not lost and that maybe he could still be remedied some way. But Spotlight gathered that he is not wasting any time further as he has immediately returned to his business to reverse the red blots on his account books.
