The Head Coach of the Super Eagles, Eric Chelle has paid glowing tribute to Nigerian fans, particularly the Authentic Supporters Club, for their passionate and unwavering support during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

Speaking after the tournament, the Super Eagles manager described the supporters as a major source of motivation for the team, noting that their constant presence, energy, and organization had a positive impact on players throughout the competition.

“The support we received was incredible,” the coach said. “From the first match to the last, Nigerian fans were always there—singing, drumming, and pushing the players to give their best. That kind of backing makes a real difference.”

According to Prince Abayomi Ogunjimi, who revealed this to Daily Sun Sports, Chelle was very impressed and even has some time out with the supporters in Mali.

“He thanked us for coordinating a strong and visible Nigerian fan presence in Morocco. According to the coach, the supporters followed the team to match venues, training sessions, and even team accommodations, creating an atmosphere of unity and belief around the squad.

“The players felt it,” he added. “The chants, the music, the colours—it lifted morale, especially at difficult moments. Knowing that your people are behind you gives you extra strength on the pitch.”

The Super Eagles manager also praised the organization and creativity of Nigerian fans, noting that their use of drums, trumpets, and coordinated chants set them apart from other supporters at AFCON 2025. He said the supporters gave Nigeria a unique identity in the stands and showcased the country’s football culture to the rest of Africa.

Reflecting on the tournament, Ogunjimi described AFCON 2025 as highly competitive and well-organized, pointing to improved facilities, security, and logistics as signs of the steady growth of African football.

He expressed appreciation to key individuals and institutions who supported them financially to be present in Morocco, including Ahmad Gambo Saleh, Esq., Yemi Idowu, the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, the leadership of the National Sports Commission, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the Dotnet Hub Foundation.

Ogunjimi also commended the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Ministry of Sports for recognizing iconic superfan Lumumba, who was rewarded with a brand-new car by the President following his standout presence at the tournament.

“That is a powerful gesture,” he said. “When passion and commitment are recognized, it encourages others to give their best to the game.”

As AFCON 2025 came to an end, the Super Eagles manager emphasized that while tactics and talent are crucial, the spirit of football lives in the stands. He concluded by saying that the Authentic Supporters Club, under Prince Ogunjimi’s leadership, once again proved that Nigerian fans remain among the best on the continent.
