Okwara calls for price stability, availability of gas

Chief  Livinus Okwara, Nnandigbo in Diaspora, has urged the federal government to stabilise the price of gas and make it available to Nigerians .

Okwara made the call following the recent scarcity of the product which has caused disparity in prices at different locations.

While some are currently buying for N1, 500 per kg, in some parts of Lagos, some others are buying for N2,500, whereas in some other parts of Lagos, the product is not available at all, as at Thursday, October 16, 2025.

Venting his anger over the escalating prices and scarcity, the APC chieftain and CEO, Rimax Group said: “The situation is bad now, not just that it is scarce, those who have are selling at exorbitant price. I believe some people are hoarding this product.

“My driver has been out since very early in the morning to fill a 12kg gas, he said he has been on queue for hours.

“The government has to do something to save the situation.

“It’s the recent industrial action by PENGASSAN that caused significant disruptions in supply, and supply has not yet stabilised, but the situation should be normal now, since the strike has been averted,” Okwara said.

Many Nigerians are frustrated due to the gas scarcity and high prices with anxiety, and a shift to cheaper cooking fuels.

The high cost has led to long queues at gas stations, increased food prices from vendors, and a strain on household budgets.”

Okwara is appealing to the government for intervention and price stability.

The sharp increase in gas prices is a major financial burden, with some households struggling to afford it.

People are resorting to cheaper alternatives like charcoal and firewood for cooking.

Food vendors and caterers have been forced to raise prices or reduce food portions to cope with higher gas costs, leading to customer complaints.

Residents are experiencing long and frustrating waits at gas stations, similar to fuel queues, to refill their cylinders.

Consumers and retailers are calling on the government to find a lasting solution and ensure price stability. They urge the government to investigate supply chain issues and bridge the price gap between major suppliers like the Dangote Refinery and other off-takers.
