The recent launch of Beyond the Mask: A Journey to Discovering Your Authentic Identity by transformational coach and author, Mrs. Mudupe Eka was more than a literary event, it became a rallying call for self-discovery, courage, and purpose.
Held at Almara Hall, Daystar Centre in Oregun, Lagos, the event drew a diverse crowd of family, friends, mentors, professionals, and thought leaders.
But what unfolded was far deeper than a typical book unveiling. Attendees described it as the birth of a movement, one championing authenticity in a world where many still hide behind societal expectations.
“Today is more than a book launch. It’s a celebration of truth, transformation, and courage. Too many of us are living beneath our potential because we’ve learned to hide who we really are. This book is an honest conversation — not just about me, but about all of us,”Eka said in her welcome remarks.
In heartfelt gratitude, Eka acknowledged her family, the Wise Up Foundation team, and everyone who supported the book’s journey. She expressed hope that the book would “stir something real and lasting in every reader.”
The keynote speaker, Hon. Tim Melaye, offered a powerful address that intertwined scripture, philosophy, and social critique.
Describing Beyond the Mask as “a gift to humanity,” Melaye emphasized the urgency of self-awareness in today’s identity-confused world.
“This book challenges us to unmask ourselves, rediscover our identity, and redefine our destinies,” he said.
Citing Martin Luther King Jr. and the biblical figure Esther, he noted that “identity must precede purpose. The crisis in our society today is that people do not know who they are or where they are headed. Therefore, anywhere ends up as their destination.”
Melaye didn’t shy away from societal issues, calling out the moral drift among youth and challenging men to support the advancement of women.
“The greatness of men is to sit and watch their wives thrive. As soon as you become worried over your wife’s progress, you have a major problem,” he warned.
A highlight of the evening came during the book review, delivered by Mrs. Titi Akinsanya, a seasoned Human Resources executive and executive coach.
She described Beyond the Mask as “a practical tool for women navigating both professional and personal pressures.”
“Many women come to work every day with a mask on. Behind that mask, there is often pain, exhaustion, and identity loss. But this book reminds us that authenticity is a journey one rooted in faith, self-awareness, and purpose,”Akinsanya noted.
Referencing Philippians 4:13 — “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” — Akinsanya highlighted how Eka’s faith-based approach empowers readers to embrace their evolving identities through life’s many seasons.
“We go through transitions marriage, motherhood, career shifts and those can feel like losses. But Beyond the Mask teaches that every experience brings us closer to who God has ordained us to be.”
The book itself is structured into four chapters: Embrace Your Authentic Self, Lessons from Self-Discovery, The Power of Self-Awareness, and Understanding Human Behavior. Each chapter offers reflective tools and personal insights designed to help readers strip away societal facades and rediscover their true selves.
The evening closed with poetry and reflections, as the core message lingered in the air , a reminder of the power of authenticity. “No destiny makes changes or impacts if it does not differentiate itself,” Melaye concluded. “Until you know who you are, you probably don’t know where you are heading.”
As guests departed, many echoed a similar sentiment: Beyond the Mask is not just a book — it’s a beginning. A call to step out from behind the mask and into a life of bold, purposeful authenticity.
