The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFund) has disbursed N136.7 million to Joseph Sarwan Tarka University, Makurdi, Benue State, for school fees for an undisclosed number of students who applied for the interest-free loan.
NELFund, in a statement on Thursday, said the action was part of the Fund’s continued desire to revolutionise access to higher education in Nigeria, especially for the less privileged in society.
NELFund maintained that it is at the forefront of providing interest-free loans to deserving students, thus delivering on its commitment to reducing access barriers to higher education across Nigeria.
Its Managing Director, Mr Akintunde Sawyerr, noted that education is the foundation of any thriving society, stating that NELFund was proud to support institutions like Joseph Sarwan Tarka University in fostering the academic growth of the youth population.
He further noted that the success of the intervention at the university was due to the exceptional dedication of Senator Olanrewaju Tejuoso, the Pro-Chancellor of the university, whose unwavering support and commitment were instrumental in ensuring a seamless disbursement process, thus exemplifying a genuine commitment to the academic welfare of students.
He promised that NELFund would continue to revolutionise access to higher education in Nigeria, adding that the recent disbursements underscore its unwavering commitment to empowering Nigerian students.
“By investing in the education of today’s youths, NELFund is practically building a stronger, more prosperous future for the nation. This milestone serves as a testament to the impact of collaborative efforts between government, institutions, and stakeholders in addressing the financial challenges facing Nigerian students,” he added.
