Atalanta is actively exploring the possibility of renewing Super Eagles forward, Ademola Lookman’s contract, although a formal proposal has yet to be made.
Lookman has been instrumental in his return to the pitch, prompting Atalanta to consider an adjustment to his current salary of €1.8 million net, which, with the Growth Decree, amounts to about €2.5 million per year.
The club recognises the necessity to align his compensation with his performance, aiming to at least match the salary of Scamacca, who is the highest-paid player at around €3 million.
As it stands, discussions are in the preliminary stages, with no official offers issued, but the intention to negotiate is clear.
Lookman’s potential contract renewal will likely hinge on the inclusion of a release clause, allowing him the option to move for a predetermined fee, especially considering the circumstances from the previous summer.
It’s possible that Lookman could opt to remain with Atalanta until the end of the season, potentially leaving a year in his contract’s expiration for a lower fee than what is currently available in the market.
It’s important to note that Atalanta does not hold an automatic renewal option for Lookman. He signed a contract in 2022 that runs until 2027, the maximum length permissible, and it isn’t legally feasible to add an additional season.
Consequently, Lookman’s contract is set to expire in a year and a half with no unilateral extension possibility beyond June 30, 2027.
