Chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River and Enugu states have identified internal wrangling as a major factor in their losses in the Saturday, March 9 governorship and assembly elections.
An APC chieftain in Cross River, Mr Cletus Obun, alleged that infighting and lack of trust among party members contributed to the party’s loss in the governorship election.
He said: “APC prepared itself to lose the election right from the primaries…There was court order on the stay of execution and no stay of execution on the eve of the election, for a party that wants to unseat an incumbent. That would have been the miracle of the century. So, to me, it was not a surprise at all.”
In Enugu, former presidential aide on Justice Reform, Mrs. Juliet Ibekaku-Nwagwu who was the APC Enugu West senatorial district candidate, told NAN that some members of the party were involved in anti-party activities and collected money from the ruling party in the state and canvassed for votes for the PDP.
“I cannot imagine that level of wickedness and bitterness from enemies that did not only benefit from our party and Mr. President but also from me in the most unique manner,” she said.
