  • They are noisemakers trying to distract our goals – Akpudo, President General

From Aloysius Attah, Onitsha

Stakeholders in Eziowelle, Anambra State, have announced the takeover of the administration of the Eziowelle Improvement Union (EIU) following the alleged failure of the incumbent President-General, Titus Akpudo, to conduct elections after his tenure expired on June 30, 2021.

The General Assembly, comprising chairmen and secretaries of the Union’s three branches, accused Akpudo of employing tactics to perpetuate himself in power and disregarding the 1992 constitution by writing a new one during the COVID-19 pandemic.

They stated that they took over the administration to convene an emergency meeting and chart a new course for the community. They also announced that the administrative secretary, Mr. Francis C. Mbakwe, can no longer issue directives without their written instructions.

The General Assembly further accused Akpudo of breaching directives from the Anambra State Government and called on the Owelle Eziowelle, HRH, Igwe Michael Ugorji Okonkwo-Etusi, to respect the terms of the recognition letter dated August 16, 2018.

In response, Akpudo dismissed the stakeholders as “noisemakers” and claimed that the process of electing a new leadership is already underway. He stated that the constitution was amended following proper procedures and that the stakeholders are indebted to the Union and have no justification for their actions.
