For residents and landlords of Christ the King Estate, Nka, Nsugbe community, Anambra State, it is the dawn of a new era for greater development and progress of the area.
During the recent inauguration of the new executive members of the estate, residents of the area were in high spirits as they resolved to chart a new course that would lift the area and give them a proper sense of belonging in the affairs of Anambra State.
Chairman of the estate, Eze Nwachinemere, noted that the inauguration marked the first time Nka Nsugbe successfully elected executive members without rancour and acrimony of any sort. He said they were poised to pursue the affairs of the estate towards promoting a new urban setting where justice, equity and fairness will lead.
He said the inauguration aimed to build a great partnership network through friendly handshakes, face-to-face meetings, people’s massive support and open discussions.
Nwachinemere said, in recent years, Nka Nsugbe has been producing materials such as large quantities of stones for building houses and large quantities of vegetables, with the help of the riverine areas, which he noted have been yielding great support to the economy of Anambra State.
While calling for government intervention, he said the estate was in need of assistance in the areas of infrastructure, security and provision of additional wards for election purposes.
“Nka has been a semi-urban estate due to erosion disaster, which has caused great harm to our roads and environment. Electricity has also been a problem due to poor response from government. In the area of security, it has been a great challenge for us to employ well-equipped security men to carry out their duties in safeguarding the lives and properties of the entire people in the estate.
“In view of the strategic political relevance of the people in these changing times, it is expected that by now we should have gotten at least a ward and sufficient polling centres but the reverse has been the case in our great estate,” he said.
Nwachinemere called for volunteers to donate money and construct entrance gates to the estate.
Traditional ruler of Nsugbe community, Igwe Victor Ntorka, in a goodwill message, pledged his support to the people of the area in their efforts to make the place better.
Ntorka, represented by the Owelle of Nsugbe, Chief Patrick Nnaemeka, commended the residents for showcasing Nka and Nsugbe community in general to the outside word positively through their exemplary conduct. He urged the elected executive members to pilot the affairs of the area to be servant-leaders and not dictators.
Chairman on the occasion, Chief Kenneth Ezeabikwa, lauded the leadership qualities of Nwachinemere, whom he said was poised to change the face of the estate for the better. He promised to build one of the estate’s gates.
An executive member, Sunday Eke, urged all residents of the area to support the growth of Nsugbe and never work against its success, in order to leave a positive legacy for generations to come.
The executiveof the estate include Obdeleagu Franklin, vice-chairman; Christian Okorie, secretary; Nduka Nwanolue, assistant secretary; Iyke Sunday, treasurer; Rose Morah, financial secretary; Ugo Nwokocha, provost 1; and Chidi Nwankwo, provost 2.
