All existing Certificates of Occupancy (C of O) issued by successive Kano State Governments would cease to be valid documents by January 31, 2025.
The Commissioner for Land and Physical Planning, Abduljabbar Mohammed Umar, disclosed this during a press conference to mark the World Land Day.
He recalled that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had issued the recertification directive at the occasion of the re-commissioning of the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) building on November 25.
He charged the residents to take advantage of the window and register or renew their landed property with his ministry before the expiration date
He stressed the administration’s commitment to providing an avenue to afford and seamlessly obtain land documents, as well as secure and strengthen land titles in the state.
He noted that a state-of-the-art infrastructure for the exercise had been provided at the Kano State Geographic Information System (KANGIS).
He indicated that the infrastructure would provide accurate and reliable records through eliminating manual processes, thereby minimising errors, manipulation of land files and titles, and delays in processing transactions.
He added that the new certificates were designed with advanced security features, rendering them virtually impossible to forge, while adding that it would ensure the integrity of property rights and significantly reduce the incidents of fraud by criminals.
