Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State has provided lands for seven grazing reserves for herdmen to graze as a solution to incessant crisis between farmers and herdsmen.
Chairman, Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, Nasarawa State Chapter Alhaji Hussein Muhammed, stated this on Wednesday, in Awe during the Advocacy, sensitisation, mobilisation, revitalisation and development of grazing reserves and stock routes in Nasarawa state organised by Federal Ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with the National body of Miyetti Allah.
The grazing reserves are located in Wamba, Awe, Keana, Obi, Doma, Nasarawa and Karu local government areas of the state.
Alhaji Hussein explained that the Federal Government have about 414 grazing reserves across the country and in Nasarawa State, the governor has approved the settlement of Fulani.
He advised the farmers residing in the affected areas to move out of the land and allow the Fulani to settle down and graze.
He also warned the Fulani not to encroach on farmlands so as to sustain the existing demarcation.
The Miyetti Allah boss also called on his subjects to embrace the grazing reserves policy of the government in other to ensure peace and development.
“The building of nomadic schools for our children, hospitals, Dams, boreholes and construction of access roads to each grazing reserve as promise by the government is a welcome development, no Fulani man should destroy farmers crops any longer and no farmer should kill our cow again, the boundaries have been clearly spelt out
“The grazing reserves especially this one in Awe was created in 1965, my advice to farmers is that they should Park out of the grazing reserves areas, no farmer should settle within the grazing areas except the Fulani” he warned
He assured that he would do everything humanly possible to ensure that criminal elements among Fulanis who accompanied them from Northern States to come down and cause trouble are not allowed into the state, adding that a committee to check such is already in place.
Alhaji Hussein further explained that he was working with relevant security agencies such as the police, Civil Defence and other stakeholders to ensure that the farmers and Fulani live in peace.
He commended the Governor Al-Makura for the release of the land and his efforts to ensure that farmers and herdsmen in the state live in peace.
