The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Auwalu Mahmuda, has urged defence intelligence officers to turn knowledge acquired through professional training into practical solutions to Nigeria’s worsening security challenges.
Mahmuda made the call on August 27, 2026, when he received the Commandant of the Defence Intelligence College, Commodore Usman Mainasara Bugaje, and participants of the Advanced Defence Intelligence Officers Course 16/2026 at Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, Ibadan.
The GOC said professional engagements such as the study tour were critical to strengthening knowledge sharing and giving intelligence officers a clearer understanding of the realities confronting troops in the field.
He identified kidnapping and other criminal activities among the major security concerns within the Division’s Area of Responsibility, drawing particular attention to the situation around the Old Oyo National Park.
Mahmuda urged the participants to use the knowledge and operational insights gathered during the tour to formulate workable responses to contemporary security threats facing the country.
He commended the Defence Intelligence College for the initiative, saying the interaction with commanders provided participants with valuable perspectives on the operational environment.
Speaking earlier, Commodore Bugaje said the Defence Intelligence College had operated for more than 25 years and described the national study tour as a compulsory component of the course.
He stressed the importance of integrated intelligence in maintaining peace and strengthening national security, while thanking the GOC and other commanders for supporting the programme.
As part of the engagement, Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan Simon, Commanding Officer, Administrative Battalion, 2 Division Garrison, delivered an operational briefing on the security situation in Oyo State and military operations within the Division’s area of responsibility.
The briefing was followed by an interactive session in which participants sought clarification on various security and operational issues.
The Army said the engagement provided an opportunity for deeper understanding of the security realities in the Division and the need for intelligence-driven approaches to tackling emerging threats.
