Vice President Kashim Shettima will turn 60 on Wednesday September 2, 2026, but has directed friends, associates and well-wishers to avoid public celebrations and congratulatory advertisements to mark the milestone.
Shettima made the appeal in a statement issued on Saturday by his Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha.
The Vice President also asked well-wishers to refrain from airing celebratory messages on radio, television and digital platforms, saying the decision was in line with his desire to keep the occasion low-key.
According to him, public attention should remain focused on national development and the challenges confronting the country rather than on his personal celebration.
“To ensure absolute propriety, I respectfully appeal that there should be no public birthday celebrations, congratulatory gatherings or goodwill advertorials across print, broadcast and digital media platforms,” Shettima said.
He instead urged those wishing to celebrate him to channel their goodwill into prayers for Nigeria and the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
Shettima specifically requested prayers for the success of the Federal Government’s economic reforms, lasting solutions to the nation’s security challenges, greater national unity, and the peace and prosperity of Nigerians.
The Vice President said his 60th birthday should be an occasion for reflection and gratitude, as well as a renewed commitment to the service of the country.
He thanked his friends, associates and well-wishers for their goodwill, while urging them to demonstrate their support through prayers rather than birthday advertisements, gatherings or other forms of public celebration.
Shettima said he particularly desired prayers for the success of the administration’s economic agenda, resolution of security challenges, national cohesion and the overall wellbeing of Nigerians.
