IT was a day of empowerment and inspiration recently in Lagos, at the Cornerstone Precious Women’s convention and 10th anniversary.
There were prayer meetings, counselling, health talk, married and singles’ meetings and sermons to inspire the attendees. Besides bringing many to God, the programme, “Listening to Jesus,” also gave voice to more women.
Women also learnt not to see themselves as second-class citizens in the society, even as they were made to know that Jesus loved them. The women were taught how to be beautiful vessels of honour for service to God, just as they were tutored on maintaining a good sexual relationship with their partners.
Speakers at the event included the host, Mrs. Becky Unoarumhi, wife of Oyo State governor, Mrs. Florence Ajimobi, Mrs. Elizabeth Ayodele, Mrs. Nkechi Anyanwu and Mrs. Damola Adeshina.
Mrs. Unoarumhi explained that the vision for Cornerstone Precious Women came in 2008. She said her mandate was to grow an army of committed, spirit-filled and bold women who would stand as lights and never be hidden.
She explained that the Cornerstone Precious Women Convention took off with high expectations: “We talked about listening to Jesus because the outlook is to build spiritually, so that our lives are moulded by his word. God has always been bringing more clarity to the vision as the years run by, by backing it up with testimonies and actual evidence.”
She lamented that a lot women feel worthless, unloved, vengeful, full of spite and not believing whom God says they should: “As a woman, I have gone through trials that others may have also gone through. And I am trying to offer a new spring of life in Christ to the women who have been displaced, abandoned, abused and confined to being full housewives, with no means or idea of how to start a small business at home in order supplement the family income.”
Mrs. Ajimobi charged women to always have a good relationship with God and ensure good family values and fear of God.
She called on women to take their roles as leaders seriously and inculcate discipline in their children.
“It is unfortunate that we have lost our good family values. We should not let go all the things that would help build the families and the society,” she said, as she advised Nigerian women not to give up.
She encouraged them to pray for their husbands and always be ready to satisfy them sexually: “Sex is very important in a marriage, and that is one of the major contributors to failed marriages. You should not deny your husbands sex.”
Mrs. Ajimobi stated that it was the duty of women to keep their families in a peaceful and happy mood and should tell their children the need to be close to God.
She said, “We should be role models when it comes to peaceful and good family lives. We should teach our children the realities of life and pray for them so that they become better in future.”
She also charged women to be prayerful and find a golden moment in their marriages and make maximum use of it: “It is only at that golden moment that you could talk to your husband and he will pay much attention and listen to you. That is to say, we should try to know when our husbands are happy or angry.”
Another speaker, Mrs. Ayodele, said women must start listening to Jesus because there are so many voices speaking to people on a daily basis.
“Listening to Jesus is the greatest wisdom to eternity. It is also important for one to select what she listens to. If you do not listen to Jesus and decide to keep bad company, that same bad company will accompany you.
“Every woman should know her place in destiny, should stay in her lane and be on the driver’s seat of her life to avoid causing destiny accident,” she said.
