The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the death of six persons in a lone accident along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, between the Enugu Flyover Bridge and Ugwu-Onyeama axis.

The Sector Commander of FRSC Enugu State Command, Franklin Agbakoba, who confirmed the incident to newsmen yesterday in Enugu, said the crash occurred around 8 a.m.

The accident involved an Enugu-bound truck transporting vegetables and fruits, along with a few traders. According to Agbakoba, the truck was speeding when it lost control and tumbled.

“The unfortunate accident involved nine persons (eight male adults and one female adult). Five male adults and one female adult were confirmed dead in the unfortunate accident.

“While FRSC Rescue Team took three injured male adults to ESUTH Hospital, Parklane, Enugu.

“The Muslim faithful within the truck carried dead bodies of five Muslims involved in the crash for burial, while relatives of a lady that died also carried her corpse,” he said.

He attributed the accident to excessive speed and possible brake failure.

“It is unfortunate, and we pray that God consoles the families and friends that lost their loved ones in the unfortunate incident,” Agbakoba added.

The yesterday’s  crash came  barely a month after a fuel tanker explosion in the Ugwu-Onyeama axis of the same expressway claimed 23 lives.
