Princess Joseph is steadily emerging as one of Africa’s most inspiring voices in youth development, literacy advocacy and leadership transformation.

An author, preacher and founder of Africa’s Largest Book Reading (ALBR), she has dedicated her life to empowering young people through education, knowledge and purposeful leadership. Her vision is simple yet ambitious: to cultivate a generation of Africans who are intellectually equipped, socially conscious, spiritually grounded and capable of competing effectively on the global stage.

A graduate of Cellular Biology from the University of Lagos and a neuroscience student at Harvard University, Princess combines academic excellence with a passion for societal impact. She is also multilingual, speaking both Spanish and French fluently. Beyond her academic achievements, she has distinguished herself as an author whose work seeks to challenge minds and inspire meaningful conversations.

Her book, Her Dream, explores themes of racial equality, shared humanity, and the common values that connect people across cultures and backgrounds. The impact of the book extended beyond literary circles when it was selected for use in senior secondary schools across Lagos State in 2023. The recognition reinforced her growing influence in education and literature while highlighting the relevance of her message to younger generations.

As a preacher, Princess utilizes digital platforms to reach audiences beyond geographical limitations. Through online ministry and faith-based content, she shares messages of hope, purpose, and spiritual growth with people across different countries and cultures. For her, faith, education, and leadership are interconnected tools for personal and societal transformation.

At the center of her work is Africa’s Largest Book Reading, an initiative born from a deeply personal conviction about the transformative power of books. According to Princess, the inspiration behind ALBR came from her desire to share with other young Africans the excitement and empowerment she experienced through reading.

She believes that in an era dominated by short-form content, social media distractions, and shrinking attention spans, books remain one of the most effective tools for shaping minds, expanding perspectives, and creating opportunities. Her goal was not merely to encourage reading but to create an experience that would make young people appreciate the joy and possibilities that books can unlock.

The inaugural edition of Africa’s Largest Book Reading exceeded expectations. Nearly 3,000 people registered to participate, demonstrating a strong appetite among young Africans for literacy-centered activities and intellectual engagement. The overwhelming response affirmed her belief that many young people remain eager to learn, grow, and engage with meaningful ideas despite the distractions of the digital age.

Organizing the maiden edition was not without challenges. Many schools were not in session at the time, making it difficult to mobilize students and engage educational institutions directly. Despite these obstacles, more than 500 participants attended the event. For a first-time initiative, the turnout represented a significant achievement and underscored the growing interest in literacy, leadership, and personal development among African youths.

What stood out most for Princess was the sense of community the event created. Young people gathered around a shared passion for learning, exchanging ideas and discovering the power of knowledge together. The experience strengthened her conviction that Africa’s future depends not only on economic and political progress but also on intellectual development.

The planning and execution of the maiden edition also provided valuable lessons. Looking back, Princess admits that she initially believed determination alone would be enough to achieve success. The journey taught her otherwise.

She discovered that passion must be complemented by strategic planning, effective delegation, and structured execution. Many challenges, she noted, could have been anticipated and addressed more effectively through better preparation. The experience became one of her greatest learning opportunities as a leader and founder.

Perhaps even more importantly, the process revealed strengths she did not know she possessed. Coordinating teams, solving problems, building partnerships, and leading under pressure pushed her beyond her comfort zone and helped her discover new capacities.

The experience also taught her the importance of seeking support. For years, she had carried a strong sense of responsibility and self-reliance, a trait she partly attributes to being a first daughter. However, organizing ALBR showed her that leadership is not about carrying every burden alone. It involves collaboration, trust, and the willingness to learn from those with greater experience. Advice from mentors, friends, and professionals became invaluable in helping her navigate challenges and avoid costly mistakes.

Princess’s passion for reading stems from her personal experience. She credits books with profoundly shaping her worldview and opening doors to possibilities she may never have otherwise imagined.

One of the first books that left a lasting impression on her was Alice in Wonderland. Beyond its imaginative storyline, the book taught her how to dream beyond her immediate environment. It introduced her to the power of curiosity and the limitless possibilities of imagination.

As she continued reading, she discovered that books offer much more than entertainment. They challenge assumptions, introduce new perspectives, and expose readers to ideas and experiences far beyond their own realities. Every book becomes an opportunity to learn from someone else’s journey, wisdom, and insights.

For Princess, reading is one of the most effective ways to expand mental capacity, sharpen critical thinking, and develop the ability to understand complex issues. More importantly, it gives individuals permission to dream bigger and pursue goals that may initially appear impossible.

This philosophy forms the foundation of Africa’s Largest Book Reading. While many literacy initiatives focus solely on reading, ALBR seeks to connect reading with leadership, empowerment, and opportunity.

Princess describes the event as more than a celebration of books. It is designed as a platform where intellectual development meets practical empowerment. Participants gain access not only to knowledge but also to opportunities that can help them translate learning into real-world outcomes.

An example of this approach is ALBR’s partnership with Jameson Travel and Tours. Through the collaboration, students interested in studying abroad can receive support with admission and loan processing. The initiative seeks to reduce barriers that often prevent talented young Africans from accessing international educational opportunities.

As preparations continue for the next edition of ALBR, Princess remains focused on expanding the event’s reach and impact. Although earlier plans mentioned September, the 2026 edition is now scheduled for November in Lagos.

The objective is clear: to raise a generation of politically aware, intellectually equipped, and globally competitive young Africans capable of driving meaningful change within their communities and beyond.

The event will bring together youths, educators, thought leaders, and development partners in an environment designed to inspire learning, leadership, and innovation. Through reading, dialogue, mentorship, and access to opportunities, participants will be encouraged to transform ambition into action and knowledge into impact.

Attracting more young people remains a priority. While Princess acknowledges that her team has developed a comprehensive strategy for audience engagement, she remains protective of some aspects of the approach, describing them as a valuable competitive advantage built through years of experimentation, relationship-building, and understanding the aspirations of young Africans.

She is, however, confident that the strategy will contribute significantly to making the upcoming edition the most impactful gathering yet.

Beyond literacy, Princess sees reading as a powerful solution to many societal challenges. In her view, informed people become awakened people. They gain deeper understanding, better judgment, and greater capacity to address complex problems.

She argues that no challenge can be effectively solved without first understanding it. Reading exposes individuals to diverse perspectives, ideas, and experiences, providing the knowledge required to tackle social, economic, and political issues.

Books, she says, allow readers to access decades of research, wisdom, and experience within a relatively short time. Through this process, young people develop critical thinking skills, emotional intelligence, and informed decision-making abilities.

Her belief is simple: empowered leaders are first empowered readers.

Looking to the future, Princess envisions Africa’s Largest Book Reading growing beyond Nigeria and expanding across the continent. Her long-term dream is to see the initiative become a pan-African movement that inspires millions of young people to embrace reading, lifelong learning, and purposeful leadership.

She hopes the programme will contribute to raising a generation of visionary leaders capable of transforming Africa’s future and making meaningful contributions to the global economy, politics, technology, and human development.

For Princess Joseph, books are more than pages filled with words. They are tools for awakening minds, unlocking potential, and building a better future. Through Africa’s Largest Book Reading, she is proving that literacy is not merely about reading books, it is about shaping leaders, empowering communities, and inspiring a continent to dream bigger.
