Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar said leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) are protesting at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja on Wednesday to safeguard Nigeria’s democracy.
SunOnline reports that leaders of the opposition party including Atiku; National Chairman, Senator David Mark; National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola; former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal; former Governor of Anambra, Peter Obi; former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, among others joined the protest.
Sharing videos at the protest ground, Atiku added that the protest was a patriotic stance to prevent enthronement of a dictatorship in Nigeria.
“Myself and other leaders of the ADC are peacefully protesting against the partisanship of the electoral umpire.

“Our patriotic stance is aimed at safeguarding our democracy and preventing the enthronement of a dictatorship,” the ADC chieftain stated.
The David Mark-led factional leadership of ADC had accused INEC of bias after the electoral umpire derecognised it on April 1.
INEC cited a Court of Appeal order issued on March 12, 2026, for its decision.
A former National Deputy Chairman, Nafiu Bala had dragged the party to court after he accused its former National Chairman, Ralph Nwosu of imposing the Mark-led executives on party members without consultation with the national working committee (NWC).
The Mark-led NWC has maintained that it was duly constituted in a process monitored by INEC.
