Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Jigawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) is upbeat about reclaiming all the federal legislative seats it previously lost to the opposition parties in the state.
The APC’s senatorial candidate for the Jigawa Southwest Senatorial District, Engr. Sale Garba, while addressing reporters at the end of the consultative stakeholders’ forum for the zone at the Government House, Dutse, noted that with the wave of unity within the rank and file of the party, it was more united than ever to reclaim the National Assembly seats it lost to the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP) in 2023.
It would be recalled that apart from occupying the Southwest District’s Senatorial seat, the PDP won two out of the 11 House of Representatives slots in 2023 including the Dutse/Kiyawa and Birnin Kudu/ Buji Federal Constituencies, leaving the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) as another opposition party that won a seat Gearam Federal Constituency
Similarly, the party won in two of the then 30-member State House of Assembly, the Birnin Kudu and Fagam State Assembly in Gearam LGA.
However, the NNPP lawmaker and the two elected PDP lawmakers in the State Assembly have since detected to the ruling party in the state.
Reflecting on the series of the electoral misfortune the party suffered during the 2023 general elections in the zone, Garba said all the problems had been identified and solutions found for them.
According to him, “More than any political party in Jigawa State and the country at large, the APC has a lot of proofs to show why it’s should be re-elected . Because in the whole of the state, there’s no part that has not benefitted from the developmental attention of the Governor Umar Namadi led administration.”
He noted besides the even development of every part of the state by the governor, he has been been able to provide the enabling leadership where all the contending interests within the party machinery were resolved.
“You’ll recall that, before now, our major challenges in the party has been lack of unity. But in Jigawa we’re very lucky, we have a leader and father, who in whatever he does, he does them with the interest of the common man, no strong attached and no personal interest.
“So, in terms of preparedness, what I cansay to our opponents is that, if they think they’re ready, I feel they should have a rethink because what we’re about to unveil will destroy our opponents across the state.”
