It was an electrifying night as Afropop star, Tuface Idibia, marked 20 years on stage last weekend.
However, one fact that stood out like a sore thumb at the event held at Terra Kulture, Victoria Island, Lagos, was the absence of his friends and former band members of the defunct Plantashun Boiz.
The trio of Tuface, Blackface and Faze started out as Plantashun Boiz in the mid-90s and released their debut album in 1999. They went on to release two more albums before parting ways in 2004, after Tuface joined Kennis Music.
“Blackface and Face ought to be here tonight celebrating with Tuface no matter their differences. This is a celebration of 20 years of success and Faze and Blackface have a role to play. It’s heartbreaking when the group broke up, but they have always supported Tuface at times like this. This is sad,” a guest who craved anonymity said.
However, with or without his colleagues, Tuface thrilled his fans, performing his songs right from the beginning of his career to now, and had the audience singing along with him. Tuface also used the opportunity of the night to celebrate DJ Jimmy Jatt as one of those who made the music industry what it is today.
