The Ebonyi State House of Assembly has sued for peace in the state.

The call followed renewed clashes between Ishiagu and Akaeze communities in Ivo Local Government Area of the State.

House Committee on Local Government, Chieftaincy and Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission Matters stated this during a familiarization visit to Akaeze, Echele and Ivo Development Centres of the Council Area.

Committee Chairman, Goodluck Mbam called for immediate restoration of peace and order in the area for the people to enjoy the good administration of Governor Francis Nwifuru in the state.

Daily Sun gathered that the committee witnessed a resurgence of the age-long crisis at the local government following report of fresh killings and attacks which made the lawmakers to take another route to their destination.

Meanwhile, the committee carried out its functions starting with Akaeze Development Centre where the Coordinator, Chinasa Okorie took them around the construction sites of the magistrate court’s building, grading and lateriting of Nkwobo-Ugwu Iyioji Road, and the erosion control at Amumaka Road among others.

The lawmakers expressed satisfaction with the level and standard of work at the sites. They enjoined Okorie to embark on more legacy projects that will put smiles on the faces of the people of the area.

At Echiele Development Centre, they decried the quality of jobs embarked upon by the Coordinator, Princess Francisca Okeke and directed her to engage the services of professional engineers to avoid continued waste of public funds.

The Committee described the culvert, perimeter fencing at Echiele Secretariat and drainage at Amaokwe as death traps and therefore, ordered the coordinator to remove them and embark on quality jobs.

Also at Ivo Development Centre, the committee was appalled by the filthy condition of the development centre secretariat coupled with the fact that the centre had no projects to exhibit.

The lawmakers then implored the Coordinator, Aja Ikenna, to embark on projects that would give a facelift to the centre and bring the expected happiness to the people.

Addressing the committee members at Akaeze, the Development Centre Coordinator, Okorie lamented the reoccurrence of the crisis in the area despite concerted effort by the government to engender peace.

He assured the lawmakers that more efforts shall be made including running to the state government for further assistance.

Okorie added that effort was on for the warring people to know the grave consequences of war.

He reiterated his resolve to continue to make dividends of democracy available to his people.
