Lagos witnessed an electrifying start to the fourth edition of the Celestial Soccer Challenge last weekend, as no fewer than 20 football teams gathered to showcase their talent in the highly anticipated tournament.

The competition, designed to promote gospel values through sports, drew enthusiastic support from various parishes, with fans cheering their teams at the Army Cantonment in Maryland, Ikeja.

Speaking on the significance of the event, the church emphasized its commitment to fostering love and unity within the Celestial community. “This tournament was established to strengthen bonds among our churches. Celestial is a church built on peace, and we urge all participants to embrace the spirit of sportsmanship. For the past three years, we have successfully organized this event, and we hope this fourth edition brings even greater blessings,” the organizers stated.

The opening day of the tournament saw ten intense matchups, with Amuludun falling 0-2 to Olusesi, while Agidingbi Cathedral suffered the same fate against the National Headquarters team. Salvation Parish secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Glorious Cathedral, while Olofi Cathedral was awarded full points following Canal Parish’s alleged boycott of their match. Ogo Orun Parish and Orelope Cathedral played out a goalless draw in a tightly contested encounter.

In other results, Aseoluwa Cathedral, Ayilara, Area A Youths, CCC Oreofe, and CCC Olorunwa Parish all registered victories to begin their campaign on a strong note.
