Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has congratulated the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Sir Keir Starmer, whose Labour Party won a landslide victory in the general election held on Thursday.

In a statement he signed on Friday, Atiku said the party’s victory signifies the virility of democracy as a functional system for a common cause.

“The victory of the Labour Party in the United Kingdom election is another testament to the virility of democracy as a functional system for a common cause.

“I congratulate the Prime Minister of the UK, Sir Keir Starmer.

“More importantly, I congratulate the people of the United Kingdom for making a choice of leadership that is deemed to be in the interest of the majority of the people,” the 2023 presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said.

Daily Sun had reported that Starmer replaced Rishi Sunak as UK Prime Minister on Friday, ending the 14-year rule of Sunak’s Conservative Party.

This newspaper also reported that President Bola Tinubu and Nigeria’s Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in 2023, Peter Obi congratulated Starmer and his party on their victory in the polls.
