Maiden edition of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Open National Mixed Martial Arts Championship will next month December 1, debut at the indoor hall, Package ‘B’ of Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
The host for the weeklong championship, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), disclosed that the tournament is tagged ‘Abuja2023′ and scheduled to hold between December 1st and 4th.
The information announcing the maiden edition of the championship was contained in the correspondence signed by NPF Director of Sports, Patrick Atayero, a Commissioner of Police, made available to SportingSun.
He further disclosed that; “the championship is aimed at promoting multi-agency collaboration between the police and other agencies of government at all levels with a view to serving the needs of citizens for people-centric institutions and police engagements.”
The organisers also disclosed that; “prior to the championship, a sensitization and orientation seminar tagged ‘NPF MMN, Let’s Participate’ will be held at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan International Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters Abuja for the NPF mixed martial arts athletes, coaches, referees and physical health education instructors from all Police training institutions.
“The seminar slated for December 2, 2023, is expected to facilitate the needed sensitisation and awareness among all mixed martial arts stakeholders and members of the public as it will serve as a crucia platform for planning and organisating of the first IGP Open National Mixed Martial Arts Championship, Abuja 2023, scheduled for December 3at the stadium,” the organisers noted.
