A naval rating, OS Harrison, was, at the weekend, killed by unknown gunmen in the Ajegunle area of Lagos State.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the killing, adding that nobody has been arrested in connection with the killing.

Hundeyin said: “It is true, a naval officer was killed. Investigation has started, but nobody has been arrested yet.”

The deceased naval officer was, until his death, serving at the Lagos Logistics Depot of the Nigerian Navy. His body has been deposited at the Nigerian Navy Hospital morgue in Ojo. The killing of the naval officer occurred less than a year after a female officer was reportedly killed in the same area.

It was gathered that the killing of the officer has created serious panic as his colleagues have threatened to avenge his death.

The naval officer was walking around the Olowojeunjeje area of Ajegunle, when he was shot by unknown gunmen. Some people said they were cultists, but others said no. We hear that the navy authority has warned them to be cautious of their security and that they should not move in the night.”

Another resident said “the navy men in the area are angry that one of their female colleagues was killed last year, while another escaped with injuries around the Boundary area of Ajegunle. The injured female officer and the deceased reportedly saw off one of their colleagues, when they attacked.”
