The Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, has been arrested by the police in Kano.

He was arrested over his alleged complicity in the act of arson and the subsequent death of an unspecified number of victims in his constituency during last Saturday’s general elections

The chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, who represents Tudun Wada/ Doguwa Federal Constituency in the House was picked up, alongside his Orderly, at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano Tuesday while on his way to Saudi Arabia to perform the lesser Hajj.

According to sources, he was arrested on the orders of the police high command in Abuja, shocked at the magnitude of destruction and mischief allegedly perpetrated on his orders.

At the Bompai police headquarters, a top police officer told Daily Sun that preliminary investigation indicated that he personally led the thugs to the campaign office of the NNPP, sat on a pavement outside and supervised the execution of the crime.

The source confirmed that his Orderly has made a useful statement to investigators handling the case.

It could be recalled that Thursday last week, shortly before the arrival of the flagbearer of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to the state capital suspected NNPP thugs set ablaze the legislators residence at Kwakwassiyya Housing Estate in the state. They also burnt one or two supporters of the APC.

Kano State Police Public Relations Officer Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, a Superintendent, was unavailable for comment when Daily Sun visited his office on Wednesday.
