42 % November/December WASSCE candidates obtain 5 credits including English, Maths

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the results of the Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (CB-WASSCE) for private candidates, 2025–second series also known as November/December WASSCE taken by 65,752 candidates nationwide.

The council in a statement announcing the release of the results, said the CB-WASSCE was written by 65,752 candidates at 370 centres spread across the country.

In a statement signed by the acting Public Affairs of WAEC, Mrs. Moyosola Adesina, said amongst the candidates that sat for the examination are 235 candidates, with varying degrees of Special Needs, registered for the examination.

She said out of the number, three were visually impaired, 24 had impaired hearing and three were Albinos, noting that the candidates with special needs were adequately provided for in the administration of the examination.

The council said out of 65,752candidates that sat the examination, 32,005 were males while 33,747 were females, representing 48.68% and 51.32% respectively.

Adesina added that out of the total number of candidates that sat the examination, 61,943) candidates, representing 94.21 % have their results fully processed and released while 3,809 candidates, representing 5.79 % have a few of their subjects still being processed due to some errors traceable to them.

The image maker said efforts are being made to speedily complete the processing to enable the affected candidates to get their results fully processed and released, subsequently.

It noted: “The analysis of the statistics of the candidates’ performance shows that out of the 65,752 candidates that sat for the examination, 33,989 candidates representing 51.69% obtained credit and above in a minimum of five subjects with or without English Language and/or Mathematics.”
The council revealed that 27,727 candidates representing 42.17% obtained credit and above in a minimum of five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics
“Of this number, 13,416 (48.39%) were male candidates, while 14,311, (51.61%) were female candidates,” she added.

Adesina said the percentage of candidates in this category in the WASSCE for private candidates, 2023 and 2024 – second series, that is, those who obtained credit and above in a minimum of five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, were 44.29% and 53.64 % respectively. Thus, there is a marginal decrease of 11.47 % in performance in this regard.

According to her, the analysis cannot be compared with that of WASSCE for school candidates, as the population for this examination consists of candidates who are outside the school system.
WAEC image maker said 1,899 candidates’ results, representing 2.89 % of the total number of candidates that sat the examination, are being withheld in connection with various reported cases of examination malpractice.

“The cases are being investigated and reports of the investigations will be presented to the appropriate Committee of the Council for determination.  The Committee’s decisions will be communicated directly to the affected candidates, thereafter,” Adesina said.

The council advised the candidates to check their results by visiting www.waecdirect.org to ascertain their status before visiting the Digital Certificate platform (www.waec.org) to access the digital copies of their certificates, which have been released along with the results.

She added: “Candidates will be required to apply for the printing of the hard copies of their certificates online, through the WAEC Certificate Request Portal (e-Certman). The portal address is https://certrequest.waec.ng/. All candidates who sat for the diet are hereby advised to check their results carefully and take necessary actions as required.”

The statement said the examination took place in Nigeria between Tuesday, November 11 and Wednesday, December 17, 2025 while the coordination of examiners and marking of candidates’ scripts were carried out at seven marking venues in Lagos, Ibadan, Benin, Enugu, Uyo, Jos and Kaduna from Wednesday, January 14, to Tuesday, February 3, 2026.

WAEC added that A 3,361 examiners participated in the coordination and marking exercise.
