In a bid to further empower women and boost small businesses across Nigeria, the Grooming People for Better Livelihood Centre has rewarded 1,346 of its members with business support items at the 14th edition of its annual Grooming Splash event held in Lagos.

The centre, under the leadership of Godwin Nwabunka, CEO, distributed various tools to women drawn from six states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The prizes included deep freezers, generators, refrigerators, and coolers, among others.

According to Nwabunka, the initiative is part of the centre’s ongoing commitment to rewarding hard work and supporting small businesses.

“Grooming Splash is one of the ways we support women; we also have scholarship schemes for the children of these women in secondary schools, and grants for undergraduates as well as postgraduate students.”

Executive Director of Programmes, Alexander Enyinnah, explained that the centre increased the number of prizes this year to reflect the scale of its impact and to reward client commitment.

“Even in challenging economic times, we believe our members deserve to be appreciated.”

The winners were selected through a computer-generated raffle, with 58 winners emerging from each of the centre’s 24 zones across 32 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The recipients expressed appreciation and surprise, with many noting that the items would help them grow their businesses.

Beatrice Olaosun, who won a refrigerator, said the item would enable her to store perishables and expand her business. Eucharia Nwabuna, a generator winner, expressed shock and delight at winning the prize.

The Grooming Splash event is part of the Centre’s wider effort to support microentrepreneurs across the country and improve household income through direct and sustained interventions.

The centre’s focus, according to the Executive Director, Administration, Isoken Nwabunka, is to help clients strengthen their businesses and support livelihoods.

The centre utilised digital systems to conduct the draws, ensuring transparency and fairness in the process.

As the women returned to their various locations, they expressed gratitude to the centre for the support, promising to make the most of the opportunities provided.
