Borno State governor, Babagana Zulum has appealed to residents that fled their community following Boko Haram attack to return home, assuring them of arrangements to deploy more security forces to the area.
Zulum while addressing residents of Kirawa, a Borno town attacked by Boko Haram, during his visit weekend calmed down the anxious residents. He urges those who fled to return.
“We are sorry for what has happened. I appeal to you to be patience as we are making arrangements to improve the security here, for the military to deploy more soldiers, likewise the Civilian JTF,” he told the crowd of residents devastated by the Thursday attack, the third in recent time.
Boko Haram on Thursday night raided Kirawa, a town located in the southeastern part of Borno and near the Nigeria’s border with Cameroon Republic.
The terrorists burnt many houses including the palace of the district head (traditional ruler) of the community after nearly an hour of sporadic gun shots, residents and survivors said.

Residents put the casualty figure at seven but there was no official confirmation as at press time. Some residents reportedly fled to the border area on the neighbouring Cameroon soil.
Gov Zulum was accompanied to the restive town by the commander of 26 Task Force Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Brig Gen N. I. Abdullahi, National amd State Assembly members, according to a statement by his spokesman, Malam Dauda Iliya.
He said the governor announced immediate construction of a new hospital, water facilities, and other essential infrastructure as the first response for the people of Kirawa.
He said Zulum equally charged the military forces to scale up their operations in Borno to halt attempts by terrorists to reverse the gains recorded so far.
“I am appealing to the Nigerian Armed Forces to be more committed. Above all, we need military operations. For sometime, military operations were not conducted in Borno State. This has been instrumental to the renewed insurgency. We need to take note of one very important thing, continued military operations. There is need for us to sustain our military operations,” Zulum was quoted as saying.
