The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has said that youths in the country need to be empowered, so that they can deploy their creativity for national development.
The ADC national  chairman, Chief Okey Nwosu, who stated this in Abuja, said most of the progress the country has recorded within and outside are traceable to the youth.
Nwosu, while inaugurating the ADC Continental Youth Council, said the initiative is to give young persons
” the freedom to think, and the imagination to innovate, the create and co-create, the create ideas to take our country and continent to where we should be.”
Nevertheless, the ADC chairman expressed dismay that the Federal Government has failed to create enabling environment for youths in the country to thrive.
According to him,,”the best thing that happened in this country came from our youths. Our youths abroad project Nigeria in a positive way. But in Nigeria, a government that wants to make the people great, a government that promised Renewed Hope, is not seeing the hope in our young men and women. This is very sad.
“What happened at the Olympics where our young athletes were not provided with the need equipment to participate, is very disgraceful. Before the Olympics, there were other international sport events where government said they don’t have budget for them to participate.
” Meanwhile, we have budget to build N21 billion mansion for the Vice President; we have money to buy cars, N180 million for one SUV, now the price has gone up, it is now N250 million; we have money to buy new presidential jet. But the young people who are ambassadors, in music and film industries, in ICT, the political leaders, instead of supporting them with their power, continued to dim their light.”
Nwosu added “for us in ADC believe that these young people need empowerment; these young people need to be allowed to use their creativity to turnaround Nigeria and the continent.”
