• Pledge to support the new Niger agenda of Governor Bago

After 11 years of it existence as an association, the Yoruba Community Council in Niger state has inaugurated a six member executive that will run the affairs of the association in the state with a pledge to work with the present administration of Rt. Hon. Umar Mohammed Bago, the Governor of the state towards actualising the “New Niger Agenda”.

The Yoruba Community Council in the state has been in existence since 2013 when it was formally formed as a socio-ethnic group without a statutory executive as the pioneer executive had operated in an acting capacity.

The formal inauguration of the six member executive of the association at a well-attended ceremony in Minna Niger State on Thursday signal the formal take off of the Yoruba socio-ethnic association in the state which the new President, Alhaji Abidiesin Abdulrahaman Olatunji said is to foster development and communal co-existence among the Yorubas in Niger state.

The President who spoke shortly after the inauguration, pointed out that in addition to fostering a harmonious relationship with the Yorubas, the association will ensure unity and peaceful co-existence among the non-indigenous ethnic groups in the state.

According to him, the new leadership of the association will provide credible representation, progressive leadership that will champion and protect the interest of all sons and daughters of Yorubas in the state, adding that “We shall ensure that peace is entrench in our respective host communities in Niger state.

“We will equally mobilise the people to support the New Niger Agenda of the present administration in the state. We will no longer be spectators or onlookers but a critical stakeholder in the new Niger agenda”, he said.

The President therefore called on all sons and daughters of Yoruba extraction in the state join hand with the new leadership in other to work together to form a common front because according to him, “one can only beat his chest with all fingers.”
