Former Sweden striker, Zlatan Ibrahimovic has hailed Cape Verde for their courage and ambition after the Blue Sharks pushed defending champions, Argentina to the limit in their Round of 32 clash at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Argentina edged the encounter 3-2 in extra time after a 1-1 draw in regulation time late Friday at Miami Stadium.

Cape Verde left the tournament with praise from across the football world after becoming the smallest nation by population to ever reach the knockout stage.
Speaking as a pundit on Fox Sports, Ibrahimovic described Cape Verde as a “small island with big dreams” and added that the players deserved applause.
He said, “I can stand here and give applause to Cape Verde. Small island with big dreams. They almost rocked the big giant.
“These guys are heroes… They didn’t lose any game during 90 minutes, it’s important to say, and they almost made it in this game.

“The world didn’t believe it was possible but that small island believed it was possible.
“I’m sure when they return to that small island they’re going to have a big party and get a big welcome on a red carpet.”
The former Barcelona and Manchester United star said he was sad Cape Verde lost.
However, he noted their place in the history books was assured.
“What they did will remain in the history books. They made a dream come true and I almost shed tears because I enjoyed this moment, seeing these images.”
