Canadian music star Drake has placed a wager worth $770,000 (more than ₦1 billion) on Canada to defeat South Africa in their 2026 FIFA World Cup Round of 32 clash.

The Grammy Award-winning rapper shared a screenshot of the bet on his social media accounts on Saturday, revealing that he expects his home country to book a place in the Round of 16.

Drake said the decision to stake such a huge amount followed a playful exchange with South African DJ and producer Black Coffee ahead of the knockout encounter.

“@realblackcoffee was chirping in the DM. I had to raise my stakes,” Drake wrote.

The bet was placed through betting platform Stake, with Drake risking $770,000 for a potential payout of $1,001,000 if Canada overcomes South Africa.

The high-profile wager has generated widespread reactions from football fans in both countries, with many debating whether Drake’s confidence in the Canadian side will be rewarded or whether Bafana Bafana can pull off one of the biggest upsets of the tournament.

Canada and South Africa are meeting in one of the standout Round of 32 fixtures, with both nations chasing a historic place in the last 16.

Canada qualified after finishing second in Group B, while South Africa secured progression as runners-up in Group A following an impressive turnaround after losing their opening match.

The winner of Sunday’s encounter will advance to the Round of 16 and move one step closer to a maiden FIFA World Cup quarter-final appearance.
