Nigeria’s vibrant bar scene recently got a boost as Diageo launched the nation’s most prestigious bartending competition tagged:  ‘World Class Nigeria 2026’.

This initiative has kicked of a high-energy nationwide hunt for the next superstar mixologist that will take Nigerian flair to the global stage.

The media launch held at The Wings, Victoria Island, Lagos, attracted top media outlets, hospitality heavyweights, and the city’s most creative bar talents.

Attendees got a taste of what promises to be the most thrilling edition yet of the world-renowned competition, which spans over 60 countries and is now in its 17th year.

From jaw-dropping signature serves to unforgettable presentations, World Class Nigeria celebrates creativity, craft and pure artistry of cocktail making.

This year, the journey will unfold across major cities, with online entries now open, followed by Community Days and regional heats in Lagos (May 18), Abuja (May 25), and Port Harcourt (June 8).

The top talents will then battle it out at the grand Cocktail Festival and National Finals on June 28, 2026, in Lagos. The ultimate champion will earn the honour of representing Nigeria at the World Class global finals in Scotland, United Kingdom.

A highlight of the launch was a dynamic panel discussion moderated by Anie Ekwere, Head of Customer Marketing at Diageo West and Central Africa.

The star-studded panel featured influential voices including Shobhit Jindal, General Manager, Celebr8lyfe; Ujunwa Chukwumah, Commercial Director, Diageo West and Central Africa; Bodam Taiwo, Customer Marketing Director, Diageo; hospitality consultant, Kostantine Madi (Costa), and beverage consultant, Lara Rawa.

They unpacked the rapid evolution of Nigeria’s cocktail culture, the rising demand for premium experiences, and how platforms like World Class are professionalising and elevating the entire hospitality industry.

Ulan Jampak, Brand Ambassador for Diageo West and Central Africa, captured the excitement perfectly. “Nigeria’s bar community has always had the fire. World Class 2026 is the platform to let it burn bright. We are not just looking for someone who can mix a great drink. We are looking for the bartender who walks into the room and owns it.”

She added that the competition is open to passionate bartenders and mixologists across the country ready to challenge themselves and grow.
